NIXIN was established in June of 2007. Although that month revealed the sudden emergence of a company called “NIXIN,” NIXIN had actually been a long time in the making. For years, NIXIN Owner and Designer, Nicki Gluckman, had created hand-made wire wrapped jewelry out of precious and semi-precious stones, simply as a pastime. Friends and family had always appreciated her creations and encouraged her to make a career of her hobby. Finally, in June of ’07, Nicki made this dream a reality.

Upon launch, NIXIN consisted of primarily wire wrapped earrings and necklaces in either Sterling Silver or 14k Gold Fill, with a few 14k Gold pieces. Nearly all of the stones used are precious or semi-precious. This first Collection is entitled the “Philosophy Collection.” Many of the pieces from the Philosophy Collection can be viewed and purchased from www.NIXINstyle.com, however NIXIN always has additional pieces that are available for purchase by appointment in the Studio.

Approximately one year after the founding of the Company, Nicki had a desire to expand NIXIN’s Portfolio and create a high end collection of cast pieces with set stones…so she did. In June of 2008, she began designing “Collection XIV.” Collection XIV, can best be described as a Collection full of cast pieces in 14k Rose Gold, Yellow Gold, and White Gold, and a few in Sterling Silver, that have beautifully faceted gemstones and druzies set within the precious metals. She creates these pieces using the lost wax technique. Currently, Collection XIV includes Bracelets, Earrings, Necklaces and Rings; some of these pieces are one of a kind. As Collection XIV continues to grow, it’s content, and therefore it’s description, may continue to evolve.

Nicki Gluckman

As a young child, Nicki used to visit her Grandmother’s New York retail store, “Mimi & Natalie.” It was there that she was first exposed to the lure of women’s accessories. Mimi & Natalie carried a wide variety of fine goods; Ray Ban Sunglasses, handbags by Judith Leiber, Coach, Carlos Falchi, Rodo and Sharif, jewelry, belts, wallets, scarves, and more. For hours, Nicki would lose herself in the store’s basement full of inventory, gathering the beads, crystals, and sequins that had collected on the floor, beaming with joy over the bag of sparkle she would be taking home with her from which she would make her own creations.

Nicki’s other fond memories of her store visits include working the bow-machine to produce bows for gift wrap and climbing into the store windows to help decorate and merchandise the displays. Although not apparent at the time, Nicki’s fascination with beads and gems, packaging and merchandising would eventually merge to become a tangible product in her future company, NIXIN.

Nearly 25 years later, Nicki would launch the NIXIN Collection of Jewelry. She had spent many years creating jewelry as a hobby for herself, her friends, and her family. She often had trouble finding jewelry she wanted to wear, so she would just make it herself. She creates what she likes, and hopes that if she likes it, others will too.

However, NIXIN is about more than just the jewelry; it’s about the experience you have when you wear it. Sometimes the right accessories make you feel more confident and sophisticated. The perfect sparkle can make you feel beautiful. NIXIN offers a wide variety of jewelry options so that you can select the piece that best suits your style or mood. Whichever piece you choose, you can expect it to come beautifully wrapped,* as Nicki believes that packaging and presentation should enhance the beauty of the jewelry. (*There is a standard wrap and a special gift wrap - both use “green” reusable and recycled components.)

Over the years, Nicki has expressed herself through a variety of artistic mediums; she has sculpted, sketched, painted, and of course, made jewelry. Her artistic focus was strengthened, when in college, a serious soccer injury forced her to find another outlet for her energy. While in college she studied Art History both domestically, at Emory University, and abroad, in Florence, Italy. She also minored in Studio Art and Italian. The influence of her foreign studies upon her jewelry can be identified in the names of some of her pieces and in the designs of others.

After college, Nicki worked as a Production Manager for a Handbag Company, and then as a Producer for a Motion Graphics Firm. Next, she spent a year teaching, until 2002, when she took a job with a large Fortune 500 Company. Currently, Nicki still holds a full time job with this Fortune 500 Company in the Medical Industry. Her day job does not allow much room for creativity, so she spends most of her free time exercising her creative mind, building the NIXIN Portfolio.

Nicki currently lives in Los Angeles, California with her Husband, Steve, and her Dog, Bailey.
